East Chapel Hill High School
Alumni Association

Mission Statement

The East Chapel Hill High School Alumni Association (hereinafter “the Association”) exists for the purpose of supporting the alumni and current students of East Chapel Hill High School, of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools system in North Carolina.

The Association’s has three goals; the first two are co-equal while the third is tertiary. The two co-equal goals are as follows: [1] support alumni of the School, primarily through the creation of an academic, professional, and social networking system; and [2] support current students of the School, primarily by providing access to the alumni body. The tertiary goal is [3] the raising of funds from the alumni body to support the current students and the School.

[1] Support Alumni of the School:
Whether it is moving to a new city, beginning a new career path, or undertaking the next stage in personal life, alumni can offer each other a tremendous degree of guidance and support based on personal experiences and professional expertise. The Association seeks to provide a forum through which alumni can network and build personal and professional contacts.

[2] Support Current Students of the School:
Current students of the School have aspirations for their future academic and professional careers, and those aspirations can often be supported by the guidance and other support that alumni can provide. The Association seeks to provide a forum through which current students can network with alumni.

[3] Raise Funds from the Alumni to Support the Current Students and the School:
As much as financial circumstances will allow, the Association will support students and the School by providing funding for such scholarships and school programs as the Association deems appropriate.

These goals are to be interpreted as guides and as non-exclusive. The Board of Directors is to be given broad discretion to interpret how these goals will be achieved.

Organizational Structure and Bylaws

The Association is a non-profit organization, not a non-profit corporation. However, the Association has a corporate governance structure, with a Board of Directors overseeing a group of Corporate Officers. Our Board of Directors is currently appointed, but the goal is develop sufficient organizational infrastructure to elect the Board.

The Association is governed by a set of Bylaws approved by the Board. To review the Bylaws, please contact the Association.

History

The Association began as a concept memo written in the summer of 2007. In fall of 2007, the School's PTSA approved the concept memo, and further work on the project began. In 2008, preliminary research was conducted on the project, and recruiting began for a Board of Directors and a Student Liaison. In early 2009, a Student Liaison was hired, and a Board of Directors was appointed. The Association received support of the School's Principal, PTSA, and SIT (School Improvement Team) over the 2009-2010 academic year.
